Support the Texas Swim Academy Avon Walk 2014 Team!
Texas Swim Academy
The Avon Walk for breast cancer is a cause very close to our hearts here at Texas Swim Academy. And we’re proud to take part of this the worthy cause again this year to raise awareness and funds to support the detection, prevention, and treatment of breast cancer in the Katy and Houston area.
Why We Walk
All of the members of the Texas Swim Academy team have been touched by breast cancer in some way. Our team leader, Texas Swim Academy owner, Kathleen McMordie, lost her mother to breast cancer when she was just 18. With the available resources and research today, she knows that the outcome would have been different for her mother and her family. In addition, even with today’s medical understanding of this disease, many women, including low-income, elderly, and minority individuals, don’t have access to the quality care they need. Funds from this program support research for cure and prevention along with programs that enable patients to access the care they need to have a fighting chance. Our team is dedicated and determined to do everything possible to put an end to breast cancer once an for all.
About the Walk
The Avon Walk this year is on April 12 & 13, 2014 and spans 39.3 miles over two days through Houston’s top landmarks and bustling attractions.
The Avon Foundation has raised more $500 million for breast cancer programs since 2003. Funds for the Houston Avon Walk are donated to a network of local programs and services here in the Houston area. A list of 2013 grant recipients for Houston can be viewed here. Nearly 80% of all funds stay in the area where the funds were raised, which enables participants to directly make difference in the lives of women in their own local communities.
