What is April Pools Day?

April Pools Day is an annual water safety event held by Safe Kids Greater Houston that focuses on the importance of water safety and drowning prevention education for both parents and children in the Houston area. This kick-off event marks the start of the warm pool season and ushers in the month-long water safety education campaign put on by numerous water safety organizations and first responders in Harris County. According to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, drowning is the nation’s leading cause of death for children under the age of four and second to kids under age 13. Harris County has the highest number of drowning-related deaths than any other county in Texas.

Local agencies and organizations across the Houston area, including Texas Swim Academy, are teaming up to build awareness for water safety and drowning prevention for this 7th annual April Pool’s Day.

Join us at Texas Swim Academy for a free water safety event open to all families, designed to teach young children and parents the importance of water safety, awareness about the real hazards in and around water, and ways families can stay safe this pool season. Texas Swim Academy instructors will be offering water safety tips for families after each class and will be giving out free Chick-Fil-A treat cards for the kids. A special thank you to Rusty Wylie from Chick-Fil-A Cinco Ranch for the generous donation!

The goal of April Pools Day is to educate the kids, parents, and adults on ways to keep kids safe in and around water. With the collective efforts from Texas Swim Academy and other organizations across the area, our goal is to reduce child deaths related to water safety for good. Join us for this kick-off event for tips to safely enjoying water-related activities this upcoming season.
