Eight years ago marks an important time for Bruce and Kathleen McMordie – the decision to transform a passion of teaching child aquatic safety into a reality.

Meet Kathleen and Bruce McMordie

In 2004, Kathleen became certified in teaching survival swim and child swim lessons. Kathleen’s devotion and passion to prevent accidents and teach children about safety comes from her previous career as a nurse. Along with being a registered nurse, Kathleen is a First Aid and Adult/Child/Infant CPR instructor for the American Red Cross. Along with his wife, Bruce is also passionate about preventing child drowning accidents and is a Certified Pool Operator. They both are members of Survival Swim Survival Association, National Drowning Prevention Alliance and the United States Swim School Association.

Kathleen and Bruce began by holding their Katy students’ swim lessons in their own backyard. The home-based program steadily developed over the following years and reached the maximum usage of their pool. In 2012, they diligently worked to open their new year-round facility that will not only give them the space they need but the ability to teach swimming lessons through the cooler spring and fall seasons. Their new Katy location includes one 30 foot by 60 foot pool (four lanes) for group lessons and swim practice, as well as five 12 foot by 12 foot individual pools for private lessons. Parents can observe their children in our viewing area equipped with comfortable seating, rest assured their children are safe with nationally and locally recognized swim instructors.

Kathleen and Bruce’s passion for water safety is the driving force in all they do. After years spent teaching children to swim in our own backyard pool, they feel fortunate to open a state-of-art facility that can now enable so many more children to learn to swim.

The dream of opening an aquatics safety academy eight years ago is now a reality and the staff welcomes you to learn more about all of the amazing aquatic programs offered at Texas Swim Academy.

We know that we are giving something back to the people of Katy, Houston and surrounding communities when we hear someone tell us that their child has fallen into the water and saved his or her own life by floating or swimming to the edge. It is a priceless gift that we hope to give for years to come.- Kathleen and Bruce McMordie
