We live in a time where information is readily available at our fingertips, thanks to the Internet and social media. While “information overload” is very real and can be overwhelming at times, it’s important to discern when instant access to information is invaluable. Deciding on the best swim school near me and who to trust when teaching your children lifesaving swimming skills requires research – and knowing what you’re getting when you sign up for swimming lessons for babies, swimming lessons for toddlers, and swimming lessons for kids

We want you to know why Texas Swim Academy is the original swimming facility in Katy and why families continue to choose us as the best swim school in the area for high-quality, result-oriented swimming lessons for kids of all ages. There are a lot of reasons why we do what we do, and we look forward to you experiencing the difference firsthand.

Our History

While Texas Swim Academy was established in September 2012, owner Kathleen McMordie began teaching swimming lessons in her backyard in 2004. With an intensive care nursing background, Kathleen had seen and experienced the ugly side of drowning firsthand. Her time in nursing showed her that no one was immune to drowning, and it made her more aware of her own children’s vulnerabilities in the water, especially since she owned a home with a backyard pool.

Kathleen took action and searched for a survival swimming instructor in Houston. She finally found an instructor from Dallas willing to travel to her house to provide swimming lessons at her pool. Kathleen felt an urgency for the community to be able to provide the same lifesaving survival swimming skills her kids were learning, so she went through a survival swimming training program and began teaching lessons herself.

For seven years, Kathleen taught countless children throughout the community how to swim, but her at-home business outgrew her home pool. She realized it was time to expand to a facility that could continue to provide high-quality lessons with successful results.

“Drowning is a public health crisis,” says Kathleen. “We’ve deliberately chosen to teach our swimming lessons differently than any other swim school. Proper swimming lessons aren’t just about water acclimation, it’s about proper survival swim skills.”

Why Choose Texas Swim Academy?

The number one priority at Texas Swim Academy is to equip children of all ages with their survival swimming skills effectively and efficiently so they can then move on to continue their growth and development in the water with stroke development and maybe even competitive swim. We remain committed to providing high-quality, result-oriented swimming lessons because those are the lessons that save lives. That’s why we’re here, and that’s why it’s important to dot your I’s and cross your t’s when choosing the right swim school

Our Katy swimming facility was designed with our families in mind. It is open year-round because drowning knows no season. It doesn’t matter if the weather has cooled or swimming season is “over,” drowning happens most often during non-swim times. Children never turn off their curiosity, so we believe kids should be learning their survival swimming skills and working through a growth and development program throughout the year regularly.

Our facility features five 12×12 pools for a more cozy environment that allows children to feel safe and secure while their parents can sit poolside for the lesson to see what it is we are doing. Once they’ve acquired their survival swimming skills, they will be promoted to our 30×60 pool to continue to grow their skills, which is what happens once a child learns how to swim. The setup of the facility allows us to provide children of all ages and abilities the ability to not only grow as a swimmer but also provide parents with the tools needed to continue lessons outside of class. The constant repetition and exposure to the pool water is what builds confidence and abilities.

“The ones who thrill me the most,” says Kathleen, “are the ones who come in so afraid and we are able to teach them, and they learn to be safe and have fun!”
