April is recognized nationwide as Autism Awareness Month, and Texas Swim Academy proudly offers an Adaptive Aquatics program to ensure that all children, no matter their abilities, can take part in the joys and benefits of swimming.

After Katy resident Christine Duncan enrolled her daughter, Madison, in swim lessons with Texas Swim Academy, they learned their daughter’s sensory integration disorder made lessons a bit of a challenge. Madison would take a longer amount of time to grasp certain skills in part because of her issues with motor planning, but her one-on-one lessons allowed her to take the time needed to develop swimming skills and become good at it.

“Kathleen and her team have been extremely patient, extremely caring and willing to tailor any plan that they need to whatever [Madison] needs to learn to swim,” says Christine, “which we feel is vital to her safety.”

Like many parents who take part in the Adaptive Aquatics swim program at Texas Swim Academy, Christine has seen a huge growth in her daughter’s confidence and willingness to try new things in the water.

“The one thing I’d like to share with other parents about Texas Swim Academy is that they are goal oriented toward teaching your child to swim,” adds Christine.

At Texas Swim Academy, we believe life-saving swim lessons should be available to children of all ages and abilities, without restriction. We look forward to welcoming any family with a child on the autism spectrum to enroll in our Adaptive Aquatics program and watch their child flourish with the individual and specialized attention they need and deserve.
